What to Expect in our 6 Years and Over Dance Programme

As your child moves into our older age groups (typically ages 6 and up), their dance journey becomes even more empowering, structured, and exciting. Whether your dancer is in Ballet, Modern Theatre & Tap, or Commercial at Flame Dance Studios, we’re here to support them in building strong technique, confidence, and a love for learning.


What to Expect Across the Year

Our curriculum is carefully designed to progress throughout the academic year, helping students:

  1. Master technical foundations in their chosen style(s)

  2. Improve posture, strength, flexibility, and coordination

  3. Build performance skills and musicality

  4. Grow in focus, confidence, and commitment


We offer a balanced blend of structure and creativity, allowing each child to thrive at their own pace.


Style-Specific Learning


  1. Builds posture, control, and grace

  2. Follows the ISTD syllabus with fun built in at every level

  3. Offers opportunities to prepare for exams when children are ready


  1. Teaches rhythm, dynamic movement, and technical skill through the ISTD syllabus

  2. Tap develops musicality, timing, and footwork

  3. Modern explores expressive movement, turns, leaps, and floor work

  4. Offers opportunities to prepare for exams when children are ready


  1. High-energy, upbeat classes with choreography inspired by pop and hip-hop music

  2. Focuses on confidence, memory, and musicality

  3. No exams: just great routines and joyful performance opportunities


Optional Exams

Children who are ready are invited to take ISTD exams in Ballet, Tap, or Modern Theatre. These exams are entirely optional and offered in a supportive way. We celebrate effort and progress, not just outcomes. You can read more about our exam opportunities and why we offer them here.


Performance Opportunities

All dancers aged 3+ take part in our Annual Showcase in February. This is a joyful, celebratory performance open to everyone, regardless of experience.


Throughout the year, we also offer:

  1. Watch Weeks for parents to see their child’s progress

  2. Community events or smaller showcases (where available)


We believe performance should be fun, inclusive, and uplifting.


A Year of Personal Growth

Beyond the steps and routines, through our lessons you’ll see your child grow in ways that reach far beyond the studio:

  1. Increased self-esteem, resilience, and self-belief

  2. A growing sense of identity and confidence in who they are

As students grow, they can continue their journey through our ISTD Graded Programme or continue their development in the Commercial classes. Whether they dream of the stage or simply want to move, every child has a place at Flame.
