Flame Dance Studios Celebrates Its Strongest Ever ISTD Exam Results

The results are in, and what a wonderful set of results they are.

This year, 93 examinations were taken across Ballet, Modern Theatre and Tap, with dancers from Primary through to Grade 4 stepping into the exam room to showcase everything they have been working towards throughout the year.

We're incredibly proud to share that every single examination was passed, resulting in a 100% pass rate yet again.

Even more excitingly, 56% of examinations were awarded Distinction and 43% were awarded Merit, making this our strongest set of exam results to date.

Some particularly special highlights included:

⭐ 100% Distinction rate in Primary Modern Theatre ⭐ 100% Distinction rate in Grade 1 Modern Theatre ⭐ 100% Distinction rate in Primary Tap

⭐ 100% Distinction rate in Grade 4 Tap

Whilst the statistics are certainly exciting to receive, what we love most about result day is what those results represent.

More Than an Exam Result

Behind every result is a year's worth of learning, practice and progress. We've seen the effort that has gone into preparing for these exams, the confidence that has grown throughout the exam cycle and the determination shown by our dancers week after week.

As teachers, we know the individual journey behind every result, and that journey is what we're most proud of. Whilst the certificates and marks are lovely to celebrate, it is the growth, commitment and perseverance shown along the way that matters most.

The distinctions, merits and passes are wonderful to celebrate, but what makes us proudest is knowing how much effort and progress sits behind every one of them. Seeing our dancers step up to the challenge, develop new skills and achieve things they couldn't do before is what makes these results so special.

Why Exams Matter

Whilst we're always delighted to see children achieve strong results, the marks themselves are not our main aim. What matters most to us is how the experience helps children grow and develop as individuals.

Throughout the preparation process, dancers learn how to work towards a long-term goal, listen to feedback, practise consistently and perform to the best of their ability. They learn how to prepare for an important event, manage nerves and approach a challenge with confidence.

For many children, an ISTD exam is one of the first formal assessments they will experience. Having the opportunity to experience that in a supportive and encouraging environment can be incredibly valuable. Children learn how to perform for someone they have never met before and trust themselves to remember everything they have worked so hard to learn. It takes real courage, and it is wonderful to see them discover what they are capable of.

The skills developed during exam preparation extend far beyond dance. Learning how to prepare thoroughly, stay calm under pressure and perform to the best of your ability are skills that can support children throughout their lives, whether that's school presentations, GCSEs, A-levels, university interviews or future job interviews.

Of course, we're proud of the fantastic results achieved this year, but we're equally proud of the life skills our dancers develop along the way. Supporting the whole child has always been at the heart of what we do, and exam season is one of the many ways we help children build confidence, resilience and belief in themselves.

Those are skills that will stay with them long after they stop remembering their Primary Tap exercises or Grade 2 Modern amalgamations.

A Final Congratulations

A huge congratulations to every dancer who took part in this year's exam session. Whether you achieved a Distinction, Merit or Pass, you should be incredibly proud of what you accomplished.

Thank you to our families for supporting practice at home, helping children prepare for exam day and encouraging them throughout the process. Thank you also to our teaching team for the care, expertise and encouragement they bring to classes every week.

Most importantly, thank you to our dancers. We are so proud of the hard work, commitment and positivity you have shown throughout the exam cycle, and we can't wait to see what you achieve next.
