Your Child’s End of Year Report: How We Create It

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be starting to send out our end of year reports and, as we spend so much time putting them together every year, we thought we’d tell you a little bit more about how we actually write them.

Reports are a lovely chance to stop and look back at your child’s year. Hopefully, they also give you a little glimpse into what we’ve seen in class and some of the progress that isn’t always easy to see from the outside.

Every Report Is Written for Your Child

We see the children week after week and naturally get to know them really well. We know the things they’ve picked up quickly, the things they’ve had to work really hard at and the skills that have suddenly clicked after weeks of trying.

By the time we sit down to write reports, we’re looking back at months of teaching, encouraging, correcting and celebrating each child, which all helps us build a picture of their year.

We Look at the Whole Child

Of course, a big part of your child’s report is about their dance development. Depending on the class they attend, we’ll be looking at things such as technique, musicality, performance, coordination, strength and control.

Alongside this, we also look at how children learn and develop within their class. Are they becoming more independent? How do they respond to corrections? Do they keep trying when something feels difficult? How do they work with the other children in their class?

We also notice children starting to encourage others, share their own ideas or take on leadership roles. These are all important parts of their development and areas we’re really proud to see grow through dance.

Every Class Is Different

The things we look at will naturally be different depending on the class your child attends because every class at Flame has its own curriculum.

In Hwyl a Sbri, we might be looking at coordination, imagination, listening skills and growing independence. In Commercial, we’ll look at areas such as dynamics, musicality, performance and how dancers learn and remember choreography.

In Ballet, Modern and Tap, we’re looking at the technique, control and understanding children are developing as they work through their training, alongside their musicality, performance and approach to learning.

Your child’s report reflects the class they’re in, the skills they’ve been working on and, most importantly, their own individual progress.

A Little Snapshot of Their Year

We hope you enjoy reading your child’s report and that there are things in there that make you smile, or maybe even things you didn’t realise they’d been working on.

Every child develops differently and our reports are a little snapshot of their year. They’re a chance for us to share what we’ve seen in class and celebrate how far each child has come.

We can’t wait for you to read them.
